 The School of Education at DUT is strategically located at the Indumiso Campus in Pietermaritzburg, positioned at the heart of rural and peri-urban teacher education in KwaZulu-Natal. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the following linked leadership roles within this strategically positioned School:

 

 PROFESSOR/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

 (Permanent Appointment)

Minimum Requirements: Professor

  • A Doctoral Degree in Education or a related discipline
  • At least 10 years of academic experience, including leadership roles
  • Demonstrated international recognition through sustained research output over the past 10 years
  • Proven record of successful supervision at Master’s and Doctoral levels
  • Evidence of significant and impactful community engagement
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and curriculum innovation

 

Minimum Requirements: Associate Professor

  • A Doctoral Degree in Education or a related discipline
  • At least 7 years of academic experience, including leadership exposure
  • Demonstrated national and/or international recognition through research output over the past 7 years
  • Proven record of successful postgraduate supervision
  • Evidence of significant community engagement

 The successful candidate will be expected to provide academic leadership in teaching, research, innovation, postgraduate supervision and community engagement.

 

  HEAD OF DEPARTMENT: SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

 (5-year renewable contract, in addition to the permanent academic appointment)


The HOD is responsible for strategic, academic and operational leadership of the School of Education, ensuring alignment with ENVISION2030 and the strategic renewal of the Indumiso campus.

 
Minimum Requirements

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline aligned to programme offerings in the School
  • Must meet the requirements for appointment at Associate Professor or Professor level
  • Minimum 5 years academic leadership experience
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly excellence and staff development

 

Key Leadership Responsibilities

  • Strategic direction and effective leadership of the School
  • Academic management including workload, performance, and curriculum
  • Driving scholarly productivity, postgraduate growth and community engagement
  • Managing departmental resources including budgeting and staffing
  • Strengthening internal and external partnerships and stakeholder networks
  • Advancing DUT’s values, transformation initiatives and staff relations excellence

 Remuneration

  • Professor / Associate Professor: Market-related salary with benefits
  • Head of Department: R10 000 per month non-pensionable allowance (inclusive of cellphone allowance)
