POST - DIRECTOR: ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TALENT MANAGEMENT

FIVE YEARS’ FIXED TERM CONTRACT (RENEWABLE)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Honours Qualification in Human Resources, Organisational Psychology, Industrial Psychology,
    Organisational Development, or related field (NQF 8)
  • 7–10 years’ experience in OD, talent management, HR strategy or organisational effectiveness, with 5 years in senior management.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Leads institutional OD initiatives aligned with DUT Strategy.
  • Conducts organisational diagnostics, culture assessments, and change readiness scans.
  • Designs OD frameworks, tools, and methodologies for organisational improvement.
  • Facilitates change management processes for structural, policy, or cultural shifts.
  • Develops and oversees DUT’s Talent Management and Succession Planning framework.
  • Implements talent review processes and leadership pipeline development.
  • Coordinates leadership and management development programmes for academic and support staff.
  • Leads the institutional performance management framework and annual performance cycle.
  • Oversees workplace skills plans, annual training reports, and compliance.
  • Conducts institutional training needs analysis aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Develops L&D strategies for academic, professional, and leadership staff.
  • Partners with SETAs and training providers for accredited programmes.
  • Supports structural reviews, organisational design, and job profiling.
  • Ensures accurate job descriptions, job evaluation processes, and grading.
  • Partners with HR Business Analytics to inform workforce planning.
  • Ensures OD principles align with budget, staffing models, and strategic plans.
  • Oversees culture transformation initiatives and inclusion programmes.
  • Supports implementation of EE strategies and institutional transformation plans.
  • Ensures alignment of talent decisions with equity and transformation priorities.
  • Implements diversity awareness, inclusion training, and organisational culture initiatives.
  • Leads development and review of OD, PM, Talent, L&D, and Transformation policies.
  • Prepares reports for EXCO, Council, Audit, and HR Committees.
  • Ensures governance compliance across OD and talent processes.
  • Provides strategic leadership, coaching, and direction to OD, Talent, Performance Management, L&D, and Transformation teams to ensure alignment with institutional goals and Strategy.
  • Manages the full performance cycle for direct reports, including setting KPAs, monitoring progress, conducting reviews, addressing underperformance, and ensuring development plans are implemented.
  • Ensures workforce planning, role clarity, workload distribution, and optimal team structures are in place to support efficient delivery of OD and Talent Management services.
  • Drives a high-performance culture by modelling DUT values, promoting accountability, empowering  staff, and fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
