Information Systems Development

POST:  Enterprise Architect

Minimum Requirements:

  • NQF Level 7 qualification in ICT, Computer Science or Electronic Engineering.
  • TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification.
  • 8 years’ experience in an enterprise architecture or ICT architecture environment (Including at least 3 years in an enterprise architect role).

 

Key responsibilities:

Develop and Maintain Enterprise Architecture Strategy and Roadmap

  • Analyse DUT strategy, ICT strategy and current-state architecture to define baseline and key constraints.
  • Define architecture principles, standards and reference architectures (business, data, application and technology).
  • Develop and maintain target-state architectures and transition roadmaps with clear sequencing and dependencies.
  • Facilitate architecture governance engagements to obtain input, resolve trade-offs and secure approvals.
  • Engage stakeholders to clarify goals, scope, requirements and success measures for initiatives.
  • Analyse processes, information flows and systems to identify improvement opportunities and constraints.
  • Develop business cases including options analysis, costs, benefits, risks, resource implications and timelines.
  • Proactively research emerging technologies, architectural patterns and industry best practice relevant to DUT.
  • Benchmark against peer institutions where appropriate and evaluate fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Produce research briefs, recommendations and presentations for executive and technical audiences.
  • Develop solution architectures and blueprints for priority initiatives, ensuring alignment to target architecture.
  • Define integration patterns, data flows, non-functional requirements and key technical decisions.
  • Conduct architecture reviews of project designs and vendor proposals, providing clear recommendations.
  • Establish and maintain architecture governance processes (standards, patterns, review checklists and templates).
  • Develop and update ICT architecture policies, procedures and guidelines to support audit and governance requirements.
  • Work with system owners and project teams to plan architecture implementation with minimal service disruption.
  • Identify dependencies and impacts across systems and coordinate technical stakeholders accordingly.
  • Provide architecture advisory services to ICT and business stakeholders, including problem diagnosis and options.
  • Facilitate workshops to resolve complex design issues and agree on practical action plans.
  • Coach and mentor ICT team members on architecture practices, standards and documentation expectations.
