Full Professor
Minimum requirements
• PhD/Doctorate in any Maritime field of study and a minimum of 10 years teaching experience
• Sustained research track record of publications in accredited journals
• Track record of supervision of postgraduates and leadership of research groups
• Sustained track record of external funding
• Evidence of collaborative linkages
• Evidence of external engagement
Summary of duties
• Teach Maritime subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Supervise postgraduate students
• Co-ordination of the academic and research programmes in Maritime
• Participation in community engagement projects
Associate Professor
Minimum requirements
• A PhD / Doctorate in any Maritime field of study.
• At least 7 years teaching experience / professional experience.
• Evidence of publication track record in peer reviewed journals.
• Evidence of completed postgraduate supervision.
• Good communication and lecturing skills.
• A strong passion for teaching and research.
• Registrable as a professional.
Summary of duties
• Teach Maritime subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Supervision of postgraduate projects and postgraduate students.
• Development of learning material for different courses.
• Actively involved in research and research activities.
• Active participation in industrial projects.
• Knowledge of online learning software, e.g. Moodle, MS Teams.
• Participation in community engagement projects.
• Assist with administrative duties as delegated.
HEAD OF DEPARTMENT (5-year term renewable based on performance)
Minimum requirements:
A PhD in the relevant discipline
A relevance in this context will depend on the cluster of academic programmes located in the department Associate Professors, Professors or Senior Lecturers
Five (5) years’ experience in higher education and academic leadership Scholarship leadership and scholarship
Summary of duties
• Dealing with student queries and complaints regarding the Department/Programme.
• Managing and supervising staff which includes: -
- The allocation of workload.
- Approval of leave.
- Enhancing staff relations and building the team towards a student-centered department.
- Attending to matters such as study leave, grievances, disputes, training & development.
- Appointment of part time and replacement staff.
- Programme and project budgeting.
- Enhancing Faculty projects e.g. Post graduate Recruitment and supervision, Siyaphumelela, FYSE, Orientation and Graduation.
- To provide leadership to the department in respect of Teaching & Learning and Research.
