Job Description

The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) in partnership with Durban University of Technology (DUT) is embarking on an initiative to build a new generation of academics. Phase S of the Staffing South Africa's Universities Framework (SSAUF) is called the New Generation of Academics Programme and is aimed at attracting people with relevant qualifications and experience to pursue a Doctoral qualification while they are developing as proficient academics at the University. Successful candidates will engage in comprehensive support programmes that include a salary, mentorship, equipment, cost of tuition fees, etc.

Only South Africans who are 40 years or younger from the designated and underrepresented groups will be considered. The University is looking for aspirant academics in the following academic disciplines:

 CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper Technology
  • Undergraduate qualification specialization in Chemical Engineering or Paper and Paper Technology (e.g BTech, BEng, BScEng, Advanced Diploma, MTech, MSc or MEng).
  • A Master’s degree must be obtained with 70% and
  • The successful candidate will be required to pursue doctoral degree.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Teaching or tutoring experience in Chemical Engineering or Paper and Paper Technology and appropriate technologies to students at an undergraduate level using online platforms.
  • Above average Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability and committed to undertake research in Chemical Engineering or Paper and Paper Technology.
  • 2 years post-graduate experience in Paper and Paper industry.
  • Proficiency in English (verbal and written).
  • Ability and committed to work in a team and independently to complete tasks.
  • Ability and committed to undertake Community Engagement Initiatives and Projects in Chemical Engineering or Paper and Paper
  • Good interpersonal, organisational and administrative skills

 Summary of Duties

  • Competent preparation and delivery of learning material related to Chemical Engineering or Paper and Paper Technology and appropriate technologies to students at an undergraduate level using online platforms.
  • Development of learning material for Chemical Engineering or Paper and Paper Technology courses.
  • Supervise, educate, and assess undergraduate students.
  • Undertake assessment and administration duties related to teaching and learning.
  • Facilitate learning effectively through traditional and online methods. 
  • Undertake research and publications, and become involved in community engagement.
  • Working collegially with team members toward attaining the department, faculty, and university goals. 
  • Assist with administrative and other duties as delegated by the Head of Department or Representative.
